We are busy planning for Pastor Appreciation Day and Old Fashioned day on October 12th. The men will dress in overalls and the ladies in long dresses and bonnets. We will have dinner following our morning service and a singing in the afternoon. Also, on October 26th we will participate in “Pink Sunday” to promote breast cancer awareness. Every three minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. 98% is the probability of survival but only for women who get early detection and treatment.

This past Sunday morning, Pastor Robert Griswold brought the message “Tried and Tested” from I Corinthians 3:13-15. Most of us don’t want to be tested because it reveals what we know or don’t know. As a Christian Jesus reveals your lifestyle. Isn’t it wonderful to listen to the word of God being preached or taught? Ask yourself, what have I done for the Lord this week? Our works are going to be tested. Most weeks we are busy but are we doing what God wants us to do or what we want to do? Jesus paid the price and shed His blood and He is in control. For a Christian who has walked with the Lord you have no excuse. Verse 13 says our works will be burnt up. Do we understand or just not accept His divine will? we have two classes of people here this morning, the saved and the unsaved. Either will be judged (v. 14-15). You will escape hell by the skin of your teeth. If you won’t work for God you deserve hell. God will not forgive you if you willfully continue in sin. He will forgive us our sins but if we continue in sin what happens? We can be punished or our lives can be cut short. You are not fooling anybody but yourself. Many are here to satisfy you. What have you done for Him this week? What did it cost your Heavenly Father? God gave up His only Son. We wouldn’t be living as we are if we put God first in our lives. It’s easy to make excuses. You will stand before God. How many of you tried doing something in church and you got mad or embarrassed or hurt and you haven’t done anything since? There will be a judgment for your works (II Cor. 5:10). When you get saved you won’t want to sin. We aren’t living for God we are having a form of Godliness but we aren’t putting our confidence in Him. Think about your paycheck. There are always decisions to make in your finances. You get paid by the work you perform. They didn’t fire you because you worked too hard; it was because you were lazy and setting bad examples for others. What kind of examples are you setting for young Christians? If things don’t change it won’t take much of God’s time to judge us. We want people to come to church because we are on fire for God and we care about people dieing and going to hell. There are many rewards mentioned in the Bible; prize of the high calling (Phil 3:14), reward of the inheritance (James 2:5; James 1:12), crown of righteousness (Rev. 2:10), and crown of glory (I Peter 5:4). It’s good to be bragged on or to be spoken highly of. What are you telling people about Jesus and His second coming? You can’t be convincing if people don’t see anything in your life. God will reward you for your works. Quit making those that want to work for the Lord look bad—get busy for Him! Respect God and people will respect you. The unbelievers will face the great white throne judgment (Rev. 20:11-12). There will be no human error; our record will be what we have done in our lives. You condemn yourself by rejecting the Lord as your savior (John 3:18). Will your belief satisfy Jesus? Will it relieve your sins at the judgment? Meet the needs of your soul at death? What have you done to bring glory to Him?
In the evening service, Pastor Robert brought the message “Why every home in America needs a family alter” from Proverbs 22:6. Most youth go out and get in trouble for attention. They are crying out for help. There is a great need for a family alter. The alter is a means by which the Word of God can be exalted in the home. This world will never solve the problems in our lives. The Bible should be exalted because it is the inspired Word from God (II Tim. 3:16). It was written for our instruction (Rom 15:4). We need to learn what we are doing isn’t working. We need to be following our instruction book. It is error free. Everything in the Word of God is right and we are wrong (Prov 6:23). The alter is a means by which the complete family can pray together. There is not enough training in the home. Do you know what has taken priority in our homes? The television—turn it off and read the Word of God. You will never have a family alter if you don’t set a side the time. It is a privilege for a Christian to pray (Matt 6:6) There must be some preparations made before coming together at the alter. Private prayer should not be hindered by anything (Daniel 6:10). Daniel continued doing what he had already been doing. Don’t wait until your children are in jail or in the hospital to start praying. Pray so they don’t go there. The alter sets an example for others. Once you start others will see a difference and start their own (II Cor 3:2). You can’t help those in need because you are in need yourself. We should let others know we have a new life (Rom 6:4). He is all we need and when we understand that He is all you want. The alter is a means by which children can be taught their duties to Christ. Children are acting like you allow them to do in your home. We are responsible for teaching our children. They are an example of what you are. They should be taught to fear God (Ecc 12:1). We should reverence the House of God. The alter is a means which children can be taught their duties to their parents. Teach respect by respecting them. Fear the Lord. Teach them to honor your parents. They should be taught to heed their parents teaching. The alter is the means by which children can be won to Christ. In most homes there is not enough of His Word read to save anyone. They should be taught the way of salvation. Parents don’t complain about prayer being taken out of school when you don’t have it in your home. The alter is a means by which Christians can grow in grace. Satan will do everything to hinder it but God can give you reasons for the alter (Heb 12:28; II Peter 3:18).
Please help us to pray for the sick, lost, bereaved, and our military. Until next time, may God richly bless you and your family.
